WHAT WE DO.

The Sustainable Signage Co offers a variety of plastic free signage and display solutions to help you reduce, reuse and recycle. We help reduce landfill, carbon footprint and sometimes even overall cost of signage using the latest plastic free material technologies, which are kerbside recyclable and even home compostable.

We can advise on which sustainable materials are suitable for your project and whether hiring our digital display solutions could help reduce your temporary signage.

Our water resistant temporary, permanent and reusable signage, enables you to eliminate correx, foamex and dibond, which normally go to landfill, and create a circular economy by recycling or reprinting your signs.

WHY WE DO IT

The lack of choice in alternatives to single use plastics and unrecyclable mixed material signage, led us to look at materials being developed in other industries to replace plastic. Recent advances in water resistance, rigidity and aesthetics of materials meant we were able to introduce several materials as replacements for the likes of Correx, Foamex and other plastic and coated toxic substances.

In the last 2 years, we have become more and more involved with the live events industries, including sporting and music events, as some key change makers within the industry have highlighted the immeasurable volume of single-use, mostly plastic, materials used to dress live event sites. There has been little stewardship of those materials on their journey from manufacturing to ‘disposal’. Most of the material used is not made from recycled content, is not recyclable, and is simply not recycled even if it could be.

As we approach the UK's Net Zero targets, more and more emphasis will be placed on measuring and reporting of Scope 3 emissions produced by companies. This includes volume of waste and how it is disposed of - the earlier this issue is tackled by organisations, the less likely you will be to receive the hefty fines for landfill, incineration and single use plastic that are looming.

THE PROBLEM

Plastic and foam signage boards are used across almost all industries in the UK and it is estimated that at least 80% of it ends up in landfill. The Real Estate industry alone produces 4000 tonnes of corrugated plastic estate agent boards- enough to fill 800 large skips. In the events industry, signage material and branding are an essential feature bringing identity, colour and participant engagement, but it is also identified by leading environmental experts, Anthesis, as the number one source of single use plastic at many typical events.

THE CONFUSION

Often more obvious plastics like straws and cups are the focus of attention in the media and are the things that corporate teams try to fix first when huge volumes of plastic could be avoided by looking at signage, hoarding and even supply chain packing and processes. In addition to this, lack of understanding or clever marketing by a manufacturer, can mean that end of life disposal requirements are not fully appreciated and the product becomes landfill after use - despite such good intentions on procurement.

THE SOLUTION

The Sustainable Signage co provides a variety of solutions to reduce and eliminate plastics in signage, hoardings, banners and other displays. We offer advice on what alternative sustainable materials will work in different scenarios and start every project by considering the possibilities of a circular, reusable signage system. Most reusable solutions in the events industry use plastic based products but even our reusable solution is a sustainable plastic free option.
